About Long Ducker

We are delighted to announce that not withstanding any Covid-19 Government restrictions we may encounter,  The Long Ducker Ride 2020 WILL go ahead on Sunday 6th September.

Following last year's success of the first Long Ducker Bike Ride from Harrow to Highclere and the Shaftesbury Estate, this year's 2020 Long Ducker Bike Ride will comprise of a Long (100 miles) Medium (70 miles) and Short route (40 Miles).

Cyclists of all abilities are invited to take part in one of 3 fully supported rides starting and finishing at Harrow School.  As an element of uncertainty exists regarding the number of participants this year, the following will apply:

Up to 150 riders across all the routes - Experienced Ride Captains from Iconic Cycling Events (Iconic) will lead, manage, guide and humour riders around the routes in groups of no more than 6 in a pod of 12. ( British Cycling group ride guidelines permitting).

If numbers exceed 150 riders then the team from Iconic will mark up the 3 routes, provide route files and guide maps and riders will navigate themselves independently around the course.  If a group would like to be accompanied by a ride captain then please let us know.  We are delighted that former Harrow teacher, Roger Uttley, will join us on the day.

To add to the experience, we can confirm that our feed station in the Chilterns for the Long and Medium rides will be at West Wycombe Park, home of the Dashwood family for over 300 years.  It promises to be a great day of cycling with significantly more hills than previous years so do endeavour to do some training in advance.

Charity Goals

The ride will raise a significant sum for local charities who deliver life changing support to local disadvantaged young people.

Long Ducker’s main recipient in 2020 will be Young Harrow Foundation: half of the money raised will be given to YHF to support charities helping young people coping with the fallout from the Covid-19 crisis, they are brilliantly placed to target the money raised to where it is most needed. A quarter will go the Harrow Club who work with some of the most marginalised young people in West London providing opportunities for them to maximise their life chances and enhance their personal development. The final quarter will be given to Shaftesbury Enterprise partners: positively impacting organisations best placed to support young people particularly affected by Covid-19.

All the money raised will be strategically targeted to trusted organisations to make the biggest possible impact on the life chances of young people.
